Munin | Group Information

How to use and where to define Groups, and the difference in using the Munin-Master <--> Munin-Node vs. Munin-Master with SNMP

Munin-Master <--> Munin-Node

in the Munin-Master device in the file

#   /etc/munin/munin.conf

you have information like this to add for each Munin-Node

[munin-node.yourDomani.org]
    address 10.10.10.10
    use_node_name yes

With this ([munin-node.yourDomani.org]) part you are able to define some structure for your device.
The first part, bevor the dot, is your device you wish to monitore, behinde the dot you build your structure.

If you wish to Group it and split your VM, Switch, Hardware, Infrastructure device you could create a structure like this

[server1.HW]
[Munin.VM]
[debian9.VM-Test]

Munin-Master <--> SNMP-"Node"

in the Munin-Master device in the file

#   /etc/munin/munin.conf

you have information like this to add for each

[munin-node.yourDomani.org]
    address 10.10.10.10
    use_node_name yes

Monitoring FreeBSD with Munin

Munin is a monitoring tool available in the FreeBSD ports. It tracks the vital signs of your servers and charts everything on graphs by day, week, month and year. It makes it easy to see when your server gets spikes of traffic and how well it handles them. It can also show you how your traffic is increasing over the month or year so that you can plan out when you will need to upgrade or add more servers. Add a comment

Munin-Node Installation auf Debian Wheezy (7), Jessie (8) Buster (10)

Hier wird nur der Node auf einem weiteren Server Installiert der Master ist "anders" zu Installieren --> Installaing Munin 2.0 Master

apt install -y munin-node munin-plugins-extra

die Datei munin-node.conf muss angepasst werden um den Master bekannt zu geben

vi /etc/munin/munin-node.conf

dort wird allow um die IP Adresse des Master ergänzt *IP ist ein Beispielt*
allow ^10\.147\.42\.62$
echo 'allow ^10\.147\.42\.63$' >> /etc/munin/munin-node.conf

/etc/init.d/munin-node restart

Wichtig

beim Master muss noch der Node definiert werden

vi /etc/munin/munin.conf

da wird der node eingetragen. Bei mehreren Nodes wird einer nach dem anderen eingetragen

# a simple host tree

[munin-node.yourDomani.org]
    address 10.10.10.10
    use_node_name yes

Ein Problem hatte ich bei der Installation unter Ubuntu 12.04.5 LTS, Precise Pangolin .....
